Cao Xiaodong 曹小冬 China, b. 1961
Using pixilation technique and little vibrant colors, Cao have added depth to his work with his knowledge and understanding of the ancient art of ink painting. The results are works with effortless integration of the old and the new techniques, combining heightened sense of emotion and a strong feeling of nostalgia. These works are to be appreciated from afar. Coming too close, they dissolve before your eyes like haze and mist in an ink painting.
曹小冬作為「85新潮」時期南京最重要的藝術群體 —「紅色·旅」的主要成員之一，早在二十世紀八十年代就已經在中國當代藝壇嶄露頭角，為藝術史家們所關注。那時候曹小冬是以超現實主義藝術風格著稱，他的作品強調線條的秩序與結構的均勻，透著「空去無人」的冷漠意向，與那候學術界倡導的「理性精神」不謀而合，代表了那一時期藝術的科學化傾向。
