“Oil Paintings by Ming
Jing”
12th – 18th
July 2007
Special Exhibition at The
Rotunda, Exchange Square, Central, Hong Kong
Yan
Gallery is very pleased to announce its forthcoming
exhibition of oil paintings by Mainland Chinese artist Ming
Jing to be held at the Rotunda in Exchange Square.
Ming
paints in a semi-abstract style and depicts the female form,
indoor scenes and still lifes. His paintings have a
dream-like quality, reminiscent of Chagall, however, unlike
Chagall, Ming restricts himself to a limited colour
spectrum, painting predominantly in shades of grey, beige or
brown, with only a few touches of bright colour. Echoes of
Picasso can be seen in his figurative work. Picasso’s
cubist figures are strong and powerful, Ming Jing’s figures,
by contrast, are delicate and subtle.
Ming
Jing’s paintings are very calming to look at; they seem
filled with a sense of weightlessness. He beckons you to
join him in his small, tranquil world, far away from the
chaos of reality and his paintings leave you feeling both
mentally and physically refreshed and relaxed.
Ming
Jing was born in 1960 in Baoding, Hebei Province. He
graduated from the Tianjin Fine Art Academy in 1983. He has
held numerous exhibitions throughout China as well as in the
United States. He has won prizes in oil painting shows
hosted by The China Oil Painting Institute successively in
1997 and 2001 and also won third prize in 1999 at the 9th
National Fine Art Exhibition, despite the fact that in the
history of Chinese art exhibitions it has always been
extremely hard to award abstract painting with any prizes.
